Toughest Job in the World: Being a Mother

Toughest Job in the World: Being a Mother

May 06, 2016

In honor of Mother's Day, let's take a quick look at this thing called motherhood. Our mom had to incubate a living being that literally sucked the life right out of her, and eventually, she had to squeeze it from her body—the devious little creature wreaking havoc on its way out the door.

The Trailblazers Load Out

The Trailblazers Load Out

May 03, 2016

November 26, 2015. Thanksgiving! I set out on my expedition for Trailblazers. I was hired to take a team of scientists into Bolivia to uncover the potentially life-changing discoveries. Triple canopy jungle can be one of the most dangerous places on earth. Harsh climates, dangerous terrain, poisonous plants and insects and hostile natives. I wanted to be prepared for anything when I lead my team on our first expedition.

An Operator’s Guide to Leadership, (Part 2)

December 15, 2015

How many of you have been on that team that we have fought or would have fought tooth and nail to stay in? You know, the team that you just cannot live without. The one that you look forward to going to work with every morning, where things just smooth seamlessly and everyone gets along. I have been in several teams over the years and have had some less than desirable teams and some really great teams. What are those key differences that made one team sync up better than the other?

The Operator’s Guide to Better Leadership

The Operator’s Guide to Better Leadership

April 15, 2015

How many of us have worked for a horrible boss or had a leader that was less than stellar? Why is it that we’ve worked in groups that seemed great even when the chips were down, while other times, even when conditions could not be better, we would rather claw out our own eyes than go to work? Why are some teams more cohesive than others? Is it the talent and abilities of the team, or does the burden of a successful team lay solely on the shoulders of that team’s leader?
