U.S. net Discovery Channel has ordered the survivalist adventure series Trailblazers (pictured) from London-based prodco October Films.
The 6 x 60 minute series will follow three elite survivalists as they lead teams of scientists to dangerous edges of the world in the search of answers to assorted scientific mysteries.
Cameras will shadow the three teams as they travel through such remote areas as Papua New Guinea, the jungles of Bolivia and Ecuador’s volcanic landscapes.
Survivalists include Gary Humphrey, a 17-year veteran of the Royal Marines and UK Special Forces; Nick Koumalatsos, a former member of the Marine Corps Special Ops with 12 years of experience; and Shaun Keilen, a former Navy SEAL who served in three platoons in the Middle East.
The series marks October’s third major U.S. commission in two months, following orders by National Geographic Channel via Mygrations (6 x 60 minutes), and History Channel’s docudrama Barbarians Rising (8 x 60 minutes). The prodco also recently announced its backing of New York-based prodco Talos Films, led by Julian Hobbs and Elli Hakami, alongside Sky Vision.
For Trailblazers, Chris Muckle, Jake Laufer and Matt Robins serve as executive producers for October Films. Exec producing for Discovery is Christo Doyle, with Katlyn Higgins as associate producer.
The series premieres March 30 at 10 p.m. EST/PST on Discovery Channel.
“Winning a series with Discovery is such an exciting landmark for October, and the culmination of an initiative to bring the hottest pitching and producing talent in factual television under our wing,” said October Films creative director Matt Robins in a statement. “Trailblazers illustrates just how well that brain trust is flourishing and bodes exceptionally well for the future as the company grows and adapts to an ever-shifting marketplace.”
